This is the best stovetop waffle maker I’ve owned over many years, which is a relief as it was expensive and I dithered about buying it, but I knew immediately on receiving it that the build quality and good design make it worth the extra cost.

The separateable hinge is well-designed and easy to put together and take apart easily, whether the waffle plates are cold or hot.

It produces four decent-sized waffles with nice deep pockets for pouring syrup into etc. Storage-wise, it’s compact, and no longer or thicker than a standard lipped baking tray.

Despite the non-stick coating, do brush the surfaces with oil or melted butter just before cooking. And you may need to hold the handles together at times, when the batter rises and pushes the top plate up, as it needs to stay enclosed and in contact with the cooking plates.

I suggest the handles could be improved as they seem to be plastic – take extra care not to let an open flame get at them. It’d be handy if the next version has hanging holes in the handles, to increase storage options.

This thing is a joy to use

If ever you were thinking about buying an electric waffle make STOP! They suffer from not getting hot enough, and stick, then take up far too much room next to the abandoned bread maker in your cupboard. This thing is a joy to use. we use some spray oil to minimise amount used and get coverage. Heat it strongly for a few minutes, then spoon in mixture. 1 minute on that side, then 2 on the other, and you have amazing waffes every time. Best part is you can then clean it in the sink like any other pan any store it with minimal room. 4 months in and we’ve used it a good 15-20 times without fault.

If useful, the recipe I use is Jamie Olivers, and they taste great! Don’t forget the Nutella!
